hey there, my friends and I used to fish that pier, on the bay side.  It is the peir where that ferry comes in.  We used to go at night and lots of shad would be around, so we used shiny plugs.  we caught a lot of schoolies there, needless to say it was always a fun time to go to that place.  I forgot what field we parked at, but we did walk a little to get there, sorry i can't give ya better directions, but one day just drive around that area and i am sure you will find it

July is a VERY SLOW MONTH.  I normally fish ronkonkama during july.  But you can do as you please.  Anyway democrat point(robert moses) is a very solid spot during the fall run.  Another good spot is west end.  If you have a 4 wheeler bring it YOU WILL NEED IT TO FOLLOW THE SCHOOLS.  You can tell when schools are there because you will see flocks of birds diving at baitfish.  As far as bait goes though i prefer plugs but meats(bait) do catch bigger fish and you will have more sucsess with them in the summer, plugs can be fished faster and will help alot when your in the midst of a blitz.  Most important HAVE FUN.  Good luck.

I'd just like to add that if you're gonna use bait I'd suggest fresh bunker chunks... Clams work well but it's a little hard to keep em on the hook when you make the cast...

Democrat point is great if you have a 4 wheeler and a permit... Otherwise you could probably try one of the piers at captree.
