Just got a place in Shirley off of the William Floyd Pky in the area of grandview avenue near the water and was looking for some local advice on fishing the area.

Looked at charts; appears bellport harbour is mostly 2-3 feel deep with some areas 6-9;  Is ther goodfishing for flounder anywhere in there and how about stripper/blues when it warms up?

also any advise about fishing the bridge that goes from Shirley to fire Island on teh william Floyd.

If I wanted to buy a small boat to fish in the bay there (I have never owned a boat so know little) which i would launch probably from the beach any thoughts on how big I can go--or just general recomendations--given that so much of the bay is 1-2 feet deep.  I guess we are talking a large "row Boat" with an engine of ? horsepower.  Metal, plastic? Fiberglass?  Engine Size ?  cost of each?

last I like to surf fish any recommendations on going over the bridge and fishing off fire island beach there. A lot of questions I know but will happily take advice on all and any of theme

Thanks
Frank

Fishing under the bridge is excellent in Spring when the ****tail blues are around (either side);  Fishing on the bridge is prohibited to my knowledge; Surf cast fishing the Ocean is great when the blues and striped bass are in season.

Thanks for reply--this is a very strange site in that you see posts with hundreds of hits yet no one actually writes anything
never say one like that

I'm fairly new to this forum, but it could be other anglers not from the area looking but don't have anything to add.

I used to live on Grandview(while ago)...You have a few good spots.  I lost all my gps info when my unit crapped out, but I can give you a general idea.

On the west side of the bridge, there is a hole on the south side of the channel, maybe 30ft from the bridge...Used to hit weakfish there sporatically...There are also numerous one on the east side, but I'm sure they have shifted around/filled in by now.

The channel going west from the bridge, all the way to the island(by the old inlet) is usually pretty good spot too for blues.

There is also a public dock on fire island west of the bridge near the island(or there was when I lived there).

If you go towards moriches bay, there is a wreck on the south side of the channel, near the fising pier(can't remember if it is before or after the pier...I think it is before).  Normally you can see it, it is relatively clos to shore.  We used to slam the blues there.

The bridge is normally pretty good.  As far as bait there, I always had better luck with clams out there..
