Hi All.. new to forum. And just getting back into saltwater fishing after a long time away. Use to go with my Dad all the time but that was 25 years  ago. Work and time have kept me away. And want to get started again.

Very interested in Pier and Surf fishjing on Long Island. Any tips or pointers appreciated.

Thanks!

I am a big fan of surf fishing.  We are extreamly luckly to have the luxary of living in the sportfishing capital of the world.  Any way i guess ill start with where to go there are three main spots on long island and they are the south shore, back bays, and montauk.  My favorite spots on the south shore are west end, smith point, tobay beach, and mostly other spots by the inlets.  My favorite back bay spot is tobay, i only fish there early in the season because south oyster bay is the spawning spot for all types of fish.  Montauk is a surf fishermans dream, the only slow month being july because of the high water temps.  Moving on to lures to use it mostly depends where you are.  Most beginners tend to get very frusturated with seaweed.  If seaweed is very dense consider topwater poppers.  Most of my favorite lures are topwater mostly because i love seeing the bass and blues jumping out of the water ambushing the lures.  I suggest going to causeway to buy all of your lures because they have a wide selection for low prices.  Check out causewaybaitandtackle.com for directions.  There are also many custom plug makers that you may want to consider.  As far as rod reel combo goes I use a quantum cabo with a 25 lbs test and a 10 foot ugly stik.  To get proffesional classes go to longislandsurffishing.com.  Tight lines to ya.
