I  just moved to l.i.  from Reno N.V.  and im trying to catch anything that will bite..I have been fishing of the   James Port marina about a half mile oe so...nothing  whats the problem???? please help      any  tips  would be very helpfull  thanks

Welcome to LIFishingReports Chris.

gosh, i'm not at all familiar with the area but if your looking to surfcast then I'd suggest maybe trying out going on one of the charter boats in the area and take note of the spots they're fishing in... (Landmarks... :-) )

what kind of fish did you go for ?

I Feel your pain!   I have lived out here for a long time now and just recently picked up fishing.  I have tried many types of lures for Blues and Stripers with no luck yet.  I am told that the fish become active 2nd half of August by those willing to share some information.  My impression is that going out on a charter boat is a good start to perhaps finding spots.  Beaches abound on both sides - many to choose from.  Surf casting can be relaxing and fun, but so far I personally have had no luck.
