I fish out in Orient Point / East Marion Area... Traveling from beach to beach last saturday 11/3/07 I encountered a bunker massacre!! Striped Bass (unfortunatly all between the 24"- 26" range) were in 18" of water as the monster bluefish in the 10lb range were causing their usual havoc on the bunker about 20 feet from the shoreline.. Hour and 20 minutes worth of fishing 13 throw back stripers and about eight 30"+ bluefish.. I Then sat and rested my arms watching these fish flop around.. I saw one guy get knocked over as he was literally waist deep in fish. I caught one bass just reaching out with my surf pole from the shoreline...
Tide just started to turn from a dead low tide.. Incoming came slow with the northwest wind.
I recommend some nice bucktails handmade by www.slevad.com Bass really hit them hard.
Google Earth Coordinates shows great arials of where it happened..

41° 8'25.08"N
72°20'17.01"W
